She is Rising! (She is rising, indeed!)

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a
faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant
and has forgotten the gift.”

~Albert Einstein

For centuries, if not millenia, the sacred masculine has been revered over and above the sacred feminine. This is still true in all of the world’s main religions and especially in western society. It has resulted in an honoring of left-brain (logical, scientific) over right-brain (intuitive, emotional), of relentlessness over rest, of violence over harmony, and of technology over sustainability. The results of this are that we live our lives largely disconnected from Nature (including our bodies).

In Chinese medicine the sacred masculine energy is referred to as yang and the sacred feminine energy as yin. Both of these energies are inherently good and when these energies are balanced in our bodies they do good by helping the body heal and maintain health. However, because of the stressors a yang-based society creates, the yang energies in our bodies are often over-revved and the yin energies are often under-revved creating an imbalance which can lead to illness and disease.

Thus, in my work as an energy healer, in continually noticing that most of our (and by our, I mean American or western) yin-yang energies are rather lopsided, a good portion of the work I do for many clients is to strengthen the yin, and sedate the yang, in order to create more balance, and thus, health in the body. I raise the sacred feminine from being too low and lower the sacred masculine from being too high.

A facebook friend recently translated the Tao Te Ching, an ancient Chinese wisdom book, into English and had me do some editing on it. As I did, I was struck by a couple of references to a balanced and wise life. I’m not going to quote directly, but essentially, I felt one of the verses could be translated as “Nod to the yang, but bow to the yin.” In other words, in Chinese wisdom tradition which is deeply connected to Chinese medicine, the ideal was actually not yin and yang totally balanced but mostly in balance with the yin slightly leading—not the yang. So what might a life with yin leading just a bit above the yang look like, especially in order to correct the overheavy emphasis on yang energies in our bodies and society?

It means not just balancing work and play, but favoring play; not just balancing business and rest, but favoring rest. It means flexible work schedules built around inspiration and motivation and family and body needs,(think siestas!) It means daily interaction with nature and people using intuition, contemplation, and meditation. It means community-centered, community-powered politics. It means earth friendly practices of sustainable abundance. All of these are trying to rise up in our culture. The imbalance in masculine and feminine energies is trying to heal in humanity, and on a larger scale, in the earth, too. If you don’t believe me, read here and here and here and here and here.

Evidence is everywhere that divine consciousness is working to heal the imbalance in human consciousness. Let us dream a new dream: of sustainable abundance, of balanced economies, of cooperation between countries, women and men, between humanity and the rest of Nature. The divine feminine, She is rising. She is rising, indeed! Yin up!
“Every valley shall be lifted up

and every mountain and hill be made low.”
Is. 40:4 (NRSV).
